The Labyrinth
The Labyrinth

One of the many unique attractions of our church is that any time, we can take a meditative walk around the sacred circuit, known as the labyrinth, which is painted on our parking lot.

The labyrinth symbolizes the quest for regeneration and enlightenment, found in many religious traditions. It represents the mystery of the soul’s journey to the mystic center. The labyrinth is a walking meditation revered since ancient times as an archetypal mandala for a journey of consciousness, a search for knowledge and truth, an instrument of transformation and healing, and a mental focusing tool. There are three stages to walking the labyrinth:

1)  Entering the labyrinth is called “purgation”.  As you walk slowly toward the center, focus on quieting and emptying the mind, releasing negative thoughts, and surrendering yourself to the spiritual journey.  This prepares you to see beyond the desires of your ego self and to be receptive to the insights of Spirit within you.

2)  Entering the center is called “illumination”.  Once you reach the center of the labyrinth, allow yourself to be consciously present to the moment, and do not be in a hurry to leave.  Let yourself be open to the wisdom and illumination of your higher self.

3)  Leaving the labyrinth is called “union”.  On the journey out of the labyrinth, allow yourself to feel replenished, renewed, balanced, and energized by your experience.  Travel slowly, and affirm those ideas and things that you want in your life, for your highest good.

When we fully engage in the walk of the labyrinth, we experience a quieting of the mind, an opening of the heart, and an awakening of wholeness, oneness, and possibility.  Come at any time and walk our wonderful labyrinth, and you will see for yourself!
